Access Statement For West Woolley Farm – March 2015

Introduction

West Woolley Farm comprises five self catering cottages converted from former farm buildings and one newly built cottage (Shepherds). Although none are specially built for disabled access nor have been assessed as such, Parlour Shepherds and Stables are more suitable for those with restricted mobility. There is a no smoking policy on the premises.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

There is a drop off point adjacent to the courtyard of cottages, with the courtyard cottages (Grain Store, Mill House, Parlour and Stables) accessed via a short ramp and Shepherds via two low steps. The car park is separate and 25m away with steps up to the cottages. The drop off for Anna’s Cottage is directly outside the cottage with car parking 30m up a gently sloping unmade track.

Cottages

All cottages have non-feather duvets and pillows.  Towels, sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers are cotton.  All cottages have a fridge and freezer or a fridge/freezer.   There is a toilet booster seat, a bath seat and tap levers available on request.

Parlour

All accommodation is on the ground floor, comprising an open plan living area, two bedrooms, an en-suite shower room and en-suite bathroom. There is a 15cm step up into the ensuite shower. Both bathrooms have additional grab rails, and there is level access into the cottage.

Stables

The kitchen, two of the bedrooms, en-suite shower room, bathroom, dining and a small sitting area are all on the ground floor. The third galleried bedroom and a larger sitting area are upstairs. There is level access into the cottage.

Shepherds

All accommodation is on the ground floor, comprising an openplan living / dining / kitchen area, a bathroom and a bedroom.

Mill House

Three bedrooms, an en-suite shower room and the bathroom are on the ground floor.  The living area and kitchen are on the first floor.

Grain Store

Two bedrooms, an en-suite shower room and bathroom are on the ground floor.  The living area is on the first floor.

Anna’s Cottage

The living area is on the ground floor, note: 1.9m (6ft 3in) height restriction. Two bedrooms, en-suite shower room and bathroom are on the first floor.

Fire Safety

Your cottage has a number of features to minimise the risk from fire;

• No smoking policy
• Fire retardant furniture
• Smoke and heat alarms
• Fire blanket and small extinguisher in kitchen
• Thumb-turn locks on all exit doors
• Emergency torches

To minimise the risk to yourselves please take time on arrival to familiarise yourselves with the cottage, in particular;

• Fire exits and the quickest route from all rooms to the exits
• How to open ground floor windows and what is below
• Location of fire blanket and extinguisher in kitchen

If there is a fire;

• SAFETY FIRST – DO NOT PUT YOURSELF OR OTHERS AT RISK
• If the fire is small and contained, attempt to put the fire out by using the fire blanket and/or the extinguisher. If unsure how to use them simply exit the cottage by the nearest door. Do not put yourself or others at risk by using the equipment
• Make your escape by the nearest exit door. If your route is blocked or impassable, exit by a ground floor window where possible
• Phone 999 – you can also call 112. The Fire Brigade will not know your cottage name so give the location as Holiday Cottages at West Woolley Farm, Woolley, Bude, Cornwall, EX23 9PP
• Alert other guests in the other cottages if safe to do so.
• Make your way to the village green by the main driveway entrance to West Woolley Farm.
• Alert the owners, phone numbers 01288 331202 / 07774 211039 / 07746 951901.

Safety on the Farm

We aim to make West Woolley Farm a safe environment for you and your family to enjoy, but because it’s a farm with animals buildings and equipment, we ask you to take responsibility for your own safety and especially that of your children.

You are very welcome to go and see the animals at any time, but please don’t go into their enclosures or give them anything to eat unless we are there. They are all on strict diets to stop them getting too cuddly! Please ensure that everyone washes their hands after being near the animals, and women who are or may be pregnant should avoid contact with the sheep and goats just to be on the safe side.

If you go through any gates please leave them as you find them – this is equally true if you’re out walking on footpaths, as farmers usually leave gates a particular way for a reason. If the big gates into our main yard are closed, we may be moving animals or machinery so please wait until we re-open them for your own safety.

There’s lots of fun to be had in the play barn, but children, and especially young children, must be supervised appropriately.
